Psa_46:4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall
make glad the city of God, the holy place of the
tabernacles of the most High.
It seems that there were very wonderful and
beautiful things that took place in the water,
or the rivers of God. Water had a strange and
powerful significance throughout the bible
that was revealed in the new world that the
LORD planned in the book of Revelation of
Jesus Christ. Yes, form Genesis to Revelation
great thing came through the plan of God,
and water. One prophet described the coming
of the Messiah as a time when He shall have
dominion from sea to sea, and from the river
to the end of the earth. Eze_29:9 And the
land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and
they shall know that I am the LORD: because
he hath said, The river is mine, and I have
made it.
When a son of Israel was exiled by his
brothers selling him as a slave, he was sold to
a man in Egypt. Losing his freedom and
languishing in prison after being wrongly
accused, Joseph rose to fame and was set free
because of a dream that the pharaoh had the
elements of which came from the river which
Pharaoh saw as he stood by the river Nile.
Genesis_41:1 And it came to pass at the end of
two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and,
behold, he stood by the river.
Gen_41:2 And, behold, there came up out of
the river seven well favoured kine and
fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow.
Gen_41:3 And, behold, seven other kine came
up after them out of the river, ill favoured
and leanfleshed; and stood by the other
kine upon the brink of the river. Gen_41:17
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In
my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank
of the river:
Gen_41:18 And, behold, there came up out of
the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well
favoured; and they fed in a meadow:
Water again being the source by which God
used to bring salvation to the people of the
earth. After the family of Joseph, which
included his father Israel and his eleven
brothers came to Egypt to be cared for by he
and the pharaoh because of the famine
throughout the world, Joseph died, and there
came to power a pharaoh who knew nothing
of the things that Joseph had done for Egypt.
Soon after this the people of Israel were
enslaved under Egyptian task masters. When
the people prayed to the LORD and he heard
their earnest, humble cry, he sent a deliver.
Out of the sea, came a savior which was
Moses. Moses was delivered through the
water from his mother that saved his life by
placing the baby into a basket and placing him
a the river. He was drawn out of the river by
Pharaoh’s daughter, which assured his safety,
and named an Egyptian name, Moses
meaning drawing out of the water. So that
that was drawn out of the water produced
salvation or rescue for God people, and
deliverance from Egypt. So in this instance,
just as water is a deliverance for a parched dry
mouth, so it was deliverance unto life the
Jewish people.
Water is even spoken of in the word of the
LORD and that which quenches one’s soul, as
David mentioned being in a dry place where
there is no water.
Psalms_63:1 A Psalm of David, when
he was in the wilderness of Judah. O
God, thou art my God; early will I
seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee,
my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and
thirsty land, where no water is;
As David sought him, we remember the
scripture wherein the LORD called himself,
the fountain of living water. The scriptures
say that later the LORD punished Egypt
simply for saying that he made the waters,
their rivers the pools or streams.
Ezekiel spoke of the Glory of the LORD as
being beside the bank of the River Chebar
Eze_3:23 . The prophet Daniel saw a vision
and received knowledge from the Most High
from beings also at the bank of the a river.
Dan 12:6 And one said to the man clothed in
linen, which was upon the waters of the river,
How long shall it be to the end of these
wonders?
Daniel 12:7 And I heard the man clothed in
linen, which was upon the waters of the
river, when he held up his right hand and
his left hand unto heaven, and sware by
him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a
time, times, and an half; and when he
shall have accomplished to scatter the
power of the holy people, all these things
shall be finished.
In the book of kings we see one example. There was
a king of Syria who had a great warrior, Naaman,
captain of the host of the king of Syria, who also
had leprosy. A servant girl told the wife of the
Naaman to send him to Israel for the prophet there
could heal him. The king then sent to the king of
Israel for him to heal his servant, and he was sent to
the prophet Elisha.
2Kings_5:10 And Elisha sent a messenger
unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan
seven times, and thy flesh shall come again
to thee, and thou shalt be clean. The
waters of the Jordan brought healing to
Naaman.
In the writings of the New Testament, there was a
pool in Jerusalem where many sick people lay. All
of them wished for healing of some sort of
deliverance. It was said that an angel would come
down and cause the water to tremble. It was at that
time that there would be healing. There obviously
had been healing there before because many people
continued to wait there for the moving of the waters.
Yet only one had received the blessings hoped for,
and that that was the one who got into the pool
first.The propjets began to herald:
Isa_40:3 The voice of him that crieth in the
wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the
LORD, make straight in the desert a
highway for our God.
Mal_3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger,
and he shall prepare the way before me:
and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall
suddenly come to his temple, even the
messenger of the covenant, whom ye
delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the
LORD of hosts.
The LORD continued his deliverance by the
river of waters, just as a person of god is
planted by the rivers of water and bringeth
forth fruit in season, the people of the new
kingdom shall come out of the water.
However in the dawning of the Church age,
we find John the Baptist baptizing in the river
for remission of sins. He heralded,
Luke_3:4 As it is written in the book of the
words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The
voice of one crying in the wilderness,
Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his
paths straight.
Mark 1:5 And there went out unto him all the
land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and
were all baptized of him in the river of
Jordan, confessing their sins.
Even He had to caution that he baptized the
people with water, but one cometh that would
baptize with the Holy Ghost and fire. And
the healing of God’s presence by the river
continued.
Mark 1:10 And straightway coming up out of
the water, he saw the heavens opened, and
the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:
Mark 1:11 And there came a voice from
heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son,
in whom I am well pleased.
The LORD called himself the living waters in
Jeremiah_2:13 For my people have
committed two evils; they have forsaken me
the fountain of living waters (a); Jesus came
walking by, and he was as that angel that
troubled the water continually that everyone
that stepped into his path as that of the
trembling water received healing. As Jesus
walked by the pool there was a man that sat
there many years hoping for healing. This
time it was not the pool, but the fountain of
living waters that granted the request for
healing as Jesus asked….do you want to be
healed.?
He not only healed that gentleman, but
everyone that came to him. He was thronged
by the thousands as he walked the roads of
Jerusalem and other cities. The scripture said
there was no one that he tried to heal and
failed. Neither is our souls lost if we submit it
to Him for healing. He healed the blind and
the lame and the souls of men.
There was a woman who was drawing water
from a well in Samaria. Jesus stopped there
as the disciples went in search of food. And
even such as she, a woman laden with sins,
Jesus did not think her too low or unworthy
to offer to her for the river of God. As he sat
by the well he began a conversation with the
woman, asking her to draw water for him
from he well. She as is typically human
brought up a natural contention between her
family of Samaritans and the family of Israel
in order to refuse his request. And the
LORD’s response was;
Joh_4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If
thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that
saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest
have asked of him, and he would have given
thee living water.
Joh_4:11 The woman saith unto him, Sir,
thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is
deep: from whence then hast thou that living
water?
Joh_7:38 He that believeth on me, as the
scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow
rivers of living water.
Here again, the water appears to salvation of
mankind.Come into the water of Life which is Jesus
Christ, He says to all, follow me. Acts w:38:
Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus
Christ and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy
Ghost.
The Rivers of God are for one and all to be
refreshed
