In the first book of the Bible, many ideas are introduced as God’s perspective. These ideas set a foundation for the rest ofthe literary book, called the “Inspired Word of God”. Of one of the ideasis: who is God? One of the incidents was the action of disobedience toGod by Adam and Eve, in which they ate of the forbidden fruit. It was thedesire to be made wise, which included the knowledge of good and evil. Once this had been done, the LORD came walking in the garden in the coolif the evening, as He always did. He was looking for Adam who had hiddenhimself.
Though physically hidden, Adam, Eve as well as the serpentwere very visible to God. It was ascertained that after the temptation ofthe serpent, that Even had eaten of the fruit giving the knowledge of good andevil and had given it to her husband. The LORD then stated to His angels: Genesis 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become asone of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and takealso of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever: Additionally it wasstated:
Genesis 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eatthereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and YE SHALL BE AS GODS, knowing goodand evil.
When the children of Israel were being delivered from Egyptunder the leadership of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, the Bible says, the subjectof Gods, again came up in the form of a commandment. This was one of theTen commandments that Moses received on the mountain.
Exodus_20:3 Thou shalt have NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME.
Later in the book of Psalms, King David would prophesy: Psalms 82:6 I have said, YE ARE GODS; and all of you are children of themost High.
Jesus Christ would continue this line of speech in the Gospelof John of the New Testament in response to the people listening to Him.
John 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written inyour law, I SAID, YE ARE GODS?
He was referring to mankind, and those that heard the word ofGod, which was all of the people that He was among. Jesus surprised someby saying those who are worthy of him would not love family, ect more than him. In one place it says to hate them, which is by comparison.
Matthew 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more thanme is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is notworthy of me.
Canit be supposed that, as in Exodus, this is the same command to have no otherGod before Him? It is a consideration since from the beginning inGenesis, there was a comparison of mankind and God. Is this commandmentin repetition to the first, Is allowing someone to take our heart away from thethings of God considered a similarity to worshipping a God. We have tonote also that Abraham was commanded to sacrifice his son as a burnt offering. God commanded this, knowing that Abraham had waited so long for a son andheir. Was Isaac being compared to a God? Was the LORD making surethat before the commandment that Abraham had no God before Him? Now, the LORDsaid, I know that you love me.
Dowe have any Gods before Him? Could we be those gods which are not to be heldbefore Him? Do we hold our will before His will and word? Who is your
God…anyway?
