WE hear often that this is the end times and that we have to be prepared for the things that the enemy is going to throw at us in order to deceive or otherwise worry us. During Bible times the Apostle Paul asked the Galatians what hath bewitched them that they had started in the Spirit and were trying to run or finish in the flesh. You see the Law and the thing in the law, were a work of the flesh to as much as possible control the flesh and bring a salvation to the Jewish people. However it was stated that the Jews could not keep the law, so why could the new Church keep the Law.
The things that are being seen today is that there is a movement to cause the Christians to celebrate Jewish Holy Days, such as Passover. Passover was a day during the deliverance of the Jewish people out of slavery and Egypt that they were told by Moses to put blood on the door post and the spirit of death would pass over them and instead kill only the first born of the Egyptian households. If you think about it, it was not the blood of a Passover lamb that save the Christian church for a death that all the world would suffer, but the Blood of Jesus Christ that delivers us from sin that our life in God could continue. For this reason, we as Christians celebrate Jesus coming to this earth for our benefit, and Jesus Christ rising from the dead so that we could rise to live with him forever.
Though many argue that the dates are incorrect or that they are celebrated on pagan holidays, every day is a day that the LORD has made, and these days have given us opportunity to celebrate after a fashion of some High Holy Days, but to celebrate the risen Christ.
Firstly, no one knows when Jesus was born, but I would like to submit, that when ever the LORD wroth a great victory in Israel, there was a celebration. The High Holy days represent the power and greatness of God toward His people, just as Christmas is supposed to. It is a celebration for Christ, his coming into the world in order to bring the most powerful deliverance to not only Israel, but to Gentiles, yes, all mankind. That is something worth celebrating. It was once celebrated on January 6th, and for some reason the day was changed, but if we Honor Jesus Christ on a day that is provided all over the nation, I would think that we should be glad to have that opportunity. The Jews had great feast, gifts, and games fun and family if not more and celebrated the goodness and power of their God. When do we celebrate the goodness and power of our God? We know that He is celebrated throughout the year just as they did, but when is the time for a Great celebration of a this new covenant and communion between mankind and our God?
We do not celebrate Jewish Holy days because they do not pertain to us directly and because Paul said: Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days: Jewish traditions are a part of the Law, which we are not a part of. There is no stress in Jewish traditions throughout the ministry of Jesus Christ, or the Apostles. We are being grafted into Abraham, not Jewish tradition and law which was well after Abraham.
Perhaps you could consider asking Jesus what He thinks, since he died that we could have a relationship with Him, not practice laws. Often it is said, that the Jews could not keep the law, so why should it be imposed on those coming into the church. I see no fault with Celebrating Jesus coming into the world to save a people who sat in darkness, or His rising from the dead to give us new life. Leave off the things that offend you. The meal selection is your own, but I can never see getting rid of celebrating Jesus with feast and gifts and family, friends and those who have less than us. That sounds a little like Purim.
Others say that Sunday is the day of worship because the New Church wanted to celebrate on the first day, which is the day that Jesus arose from the dead.
The scripture says, this is the day that the LORD hath made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.
